Ascent Trip Report

Slept in the parking lot of Rose Summit Parking lot. Woke up at 4 AM went back to sleep and got up at 5:30 AM, choked down sweet roll and Vitamin water and headed out at 5:41. I was immediately impresses with the pines on the walk in that both species of Bristlecone and pinon (5 in a bundle and 2 in a bundle) looked very different than the ones in the CO area. I must go back and see if they are different species, varieties, etc. The open terrain was well received since the signs say it is mountain lion and black bear terrain. The trails are well maintained and well marked all the way. There is not much gain for the first 2.5 miles but a lot of up and down roller coaster ride. The waterfall is nice but not as exciting as I expected since so many people go hike to it. The Trail all the way to the summit is so comfortable on the feet that I give this hike a high rating for its nice views, high prominence, and view of the great lake Tahoe.

There is a double summit and the second is lower according to the USGS map but there was an impressive wall of rocks built by someone as a wind shelter so I ventured over there and then reclimbed back to the actual peak then headed down to the saddle with Church Peak which I did for extra credit.
