Ascent Trip ReportThe first peak of a 2 month peakbagging tour around western Europe, after the UK's Covid-19 lockdown had been lifted. (My last pre-lockdown peak was Salak, Indonesia, in March).
From SE, another GB plated car already there, 2 French vehicles arrived next day. Fairly rough drive, my Ford Focus made it with minor groundings (not a good way to start a 2 month trip - poor car!). I took direct route up from Bourg-Saint-Maurice, a little steep and loose in places. Can be bypassed using longer paved road from La Villaret du Cote. However the rougher part is near the trailhead, beyond the farm.
Standard route via NE couloir: it had a good covering of snow but there was no hint of this from the trailhead - go prepared; and note that later in the season with no snow it can be a more difficult, chossy climb.
For stream crossings at start, see GPS track (I seem to have lost mine: the one uploaded is from Oscar Argudo - thanks). Intermittent path leads into big stony bowl within NE couloir heading up to London, surprisingly snowy for mid July. Initially easy but steepens to c45deg needing care. I kept crampons on for upper dirty soil section leading to notch in ridge, whence a chossy semi scramble L leads to summit block, the summit reached by a YDS3 scramble L side, maybe bypassable R side, not checked. Summit has a wooden sign, a trig block and a bolt.

2h15 up, likely similar down. Then across the Italian border for Il Mottarone that afternoon, a much easier proposition!
