Ascent Trip ReportWe have guests over so we had some social obligations to fulfill earlier in the day, but we still wanted to get out for this one even if it was going to be late. Started late in the day ~5pm and got back just as it turned to pitch black so we narrowly avoided using headlamps.
We used Ken Toyama’s ascent route and it wasn’t terrible, but the lower third is full of hellacious, head high bushwhacking. I have a hilarious photo of Scott in the brush where you can just see his head poking out and his entire body is engulfed in the brush. It was tough to climb, but the upper parts were really fun and gentle on rock. I had a blast on the final ridge to the peak. It’s a scramble for everyone - it can be class 2-5 with none or a lot of exposure. I took a somewhat exposed class 4 route which got my blood pumping, but was good fun while Scott took the easy way up. I tried to stay on the spine the whole way but cliffed out halfway through and had to drop down before coming back up.
Since it was getting late, we debated heading down a different way, but we ended up going back the same way. The brush wasn’t as bad since we had gravity on our side and we ended up not using headlamps.
Total hike took ~ 4 hours and 15 minutes.
