Ascent Trip ReportThis was an awesome peak to bag! The abandoned trail was still easily navigable and the tread was obvious. I’ve heard horror stories about this peak but what I witnessed did not fit the hysteria. Obviously there’s ton of blowdowns, but you can work around them.
The old trail breaks off from the Balsam Mountain Trail about .6mi west of the AT junction. After about .63mi on the old trail, I broke off and bushwhacked up to the gap between Hardison & Marks. There is a manway that is pretty easy to follow a majority of the time, as you explore you’ll notice multiple manways, assuming new ones are made when new blowdowns happen.
