Ascent Trip ReportUp early, drove to trail head for Ampersand Mountain. 2.7 miles up in 1:38- very steep and challenging; one very difficult section getting up and over boulder just below summit area. 2.7 miles down in 1:18. Total of 5.4 miles. Benchmark on summit high point and 2 reference benchmarks close by. Followed yellow paint markers for another 25 yards to find spot of old fire tower and plaque erected to honor Walter Channing Rice "The Hermit of Ampersand", who served as fire observer from 1915-1923. #5 of the Saranac Lake 6er.
