Ascent Trip Report

Since the first accent in this trip was a drive up, this trip report contains the driving information. Please see my primary trip report here for the hiking info and GPX track.

The drive to Washington's peak is on a steep road with lots of switch backs and some areas of road exposure. Some of the switch backs have very tight turns that sometimes require backing up and going forward a couple of times to continue on the road. There are some spots to turn around on the worst parts of the switch backs which we used a couple of times to get the Jeep up the road. You will want high clearance and 4-wheel drive to get up this road and be prepared to drive in "low" gear most of the way up the switch backs. Since Google maps doesn't know about the dirt road to the peak, I created a GPX track with driving directions to it. These directions are based on driving from US 50 at this junction, taking White Pine Country Road 39 (a nice dirt road) to paved road 894 (Shoshone Rd), and then up NF-453.

Stats for the entire hike are: 5 hours and 46 minutes, 5.87 miles round trip, and 2813 feet of elevation gain.
