Ascent Trip ReportStarted at 7:15 on the Goat Creek Trail on the east side of American Ridge. Nice, cool morning with no others on the trail - solo all the way to the summit. Saw 9 hikers on my way down. Two had reached the summit by the Goat Peak Trail just after I got there.
But the Goat Creek Trail is a pleasant, gradual trail through a forest with many species of trees: pine, fir, larch, cedar, hemlock. Some wildflowers still coming out: tiger lilies, twin flowers, phlox, paint brush, bear grass, others I don't know names of. This trail is a nice pleasant, uncrowded alternative to the popular one from Hell's Crossing.
Trail maintenance is needed; I lost count of down trees at 18. But they are all easy to go over.
