Ascent Trip ReportRip's Rock can be accessed from the private land at Winter Clove Inn. They ask that you stop at the Inn to let them know you're going to be hiking the trails, however, the Inn was closed (this is Covid 19 time) and there were no instructions or signs. Parked where a few other cars were by secondary building across from the Inn. Signs pointed to Rip's and other areas. Some led to mountain bike paths (Turnicut). Used AllTrails to figure out which way to go. A really beautiful and varied hike through woods, fields, old farm lands, up and across ledges. A lean to with a picnic table inside a little in need of a boost. The summit ledge has multiple viewing areas that overlook the Catskill area. Returned and checked out a big of the Clove Connector trail, which starts out on a golf course. Saw a huge pileated woodpecker flying across. Lots of other birds along with wildflowers. Upon return to car, a chair with No Parking sign was on it. May have been because there were several cars in the lot and Covid 19 has been restricting parking everywhere, not sure. Others were parking near the road. Very pleasant day aside from some gnats. About 5 miles round trip.
