Ascent Trip Report

My wife, Geri, and I had just finished visiting every state park in Colorado and we were on our way home back to Missouri, but I couldn't resist bagging one more Colorado county highpoint on the way home which brought my Colorado county highpoint total to 42. Two Buttes is well named with two prominent peaks rising from the same elevated mass looking like a strange pimple on the Earth's surface. The access route is southwest of the butte from CR VV. There is a substantial wooden gate at the trail head, which can be easily crossed and a well wore trail leads up the west side of the butte to a saddle between the north and south highpoints. An ascent up the southern slope of the butte would probably involve some easy Class 3 instead of the much more mild route on the west side of the butte. It took my wife and I 15 minutes to cover .33 miles to the summit of Two Buttes and as expected, we enjoyed a windy, but great view in all directions. From the summit my wife hiked directly back for the car, but I could not resist bagging Two Buttes (north), since it is so close. See that trip report for details.
