Ascent Trip ReportAfter staying a nice night in the park campground, Hannah and I arose, wished dad a happy father's day, had some nice oatmeal over the fire, and set off onto the prairie. We took the mound trail starting at the parking lot on the north end of the trial, just east of the buffalo viewing platform. It's a pleasant walk, although it was quite warm and we didn't bring enough water but the mound viewing platform, which appears to be higher than eagle rock, the stated "high point" in the park provides a nice view of the surrounding area, with the ability on a clear day to see both Iowa and South Dakota. We even saw some buffalo, thanks to dad bringing a pair of binoculars. |
