Ascent Trip Report17 years since my previous ascent with my, then, 6 year old daughter. I fancied a return and a wander around various of the tops surrounding Skiddaw.
The main route is up from Latrigg - a wide path visible from afar - taken by me 17 years earlier. As Skiddaw is such a popular hill, the main route is not particularly recommended. In these Covid-19 times I looked for a quieter approach though I knew that the summit area would be busy (and it was).
I had used a part of today's approach on my first ever ascent of Skiddaw which was from Keswick.
I parked at the Latrigg (Underskiddaw) car park and walked back down the road to Millbeck. From there I took a route to Dodd (quiet), then almost to the top of Carl Side (quiet), from there an out and back to Ullock Pike over Long Side (busier), then back to Carl Side (quiet), from there up the steep flank of Skiddaw (quiet), to the summit of Skiddaw (busy), then to Skiddaw Little Man (busy), from there I cut across to Sale How (quiet), next I followed sheep tracks on a long contour around to the col before Lonscale Fell (met no-one), up to Lonscale Fell (busier), down to Latrigg car park (surprisingly quiet for the main route up) and, finally, Latrigg (quiet).
A nice round then with Derwentwater the main focus of views with its surrounding hills.
