Ascent of Mount Deception on 2020-06-13
|Date:||Saturday, June 13, 2020|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||5796 ft / 1766 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI parked at the Bill Reily trailhead, which is located where Mt.Disappointment Road meets Mt. Wilson/Red Box Road. The trail does not have a sign at the trailhead, but it is easy to spot directly at the base of the intersection. (If you walk up to the small parking area up the road, you have gone too far.)
The trail is very nice. Excellent maintenance and in the shade for most of the way. At the first section of the trail where it almost meets back up with the road (clearly noticeable by a metal guardrail), I took a short side trail up to the road. I then walked the road up to the saddle between Disappointment and Deception. This cuts off a large section of the lower road.
At the saddle, I took the easy-to-spot firebreak/use-trail up to Deception. It is easy to follow. Rather steep at the start, but it levels off quickly. Takes you right to the summit. Great views along the way. Went back down along the same route. Saw a few people on the Bill Reily trail, only one other person near Deception.
Total Round-trip: 1 hour 15 minutes.
