Ascent of Mount Webster on 2010-09-05Date: | Sunday, September 5, 2010 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Mount Webster | Location: | USA-New Hampshire | Elevation: | 3910 ft / 1191 m |
Ascent Trip ReportWe set off from the summit of Mount Jackson down the Webster Cliff Trail. The first section was a steep, rocky scramble down. However as soon as the trail entered the trees it flattened out, and remained relatively flat for most of the distance, save a small amount of elevation gain to reach the summit of Mount Webster. The trail was surrounded on either side by short trees and vegetation, and was grassy in some of the wetter spots, which were traversed by boards.
The Webster summit was cold and windy, and we felt a few drops of rain. There were great views of the Willey Range across the notch. We spent a few minutes at the summit, and then descended to a less windy spot and had lunch.
The hike down the Webster Branch Trail was similar to the Jackson Branch Trail, rocky and steep in places. There was a nice waterfall and pool right before the junction with the Jackson Branch Trail. We continued down the Webster-Jackson Trail back to the trailhead.
