Ascent Trip ReportThe Chunky Gal Trail is in decent shape except for an area east of the highpoint of Dead Line Ridge which Bradley Reese talks about. The ridgeline from Tusquitee to Signal is a bit rough and the portion from the saddle to Signal Bald isn't bad at all. LoJ's Cherokee County HP is pretty open and easy. Peakbagger's Cherokee County HP isn't too fun but we came down a different way and that is definitely the best way to go up. Old Road Gap Trl has lots of blowdowns near the top, which Bradley also mentions. Once you start the switchbacks it clears out but had a hard time finding the trail in places at the switchbacks. The culverts for Gibby Branch are washed out and you can't cross the road here. It's pretty easy rock hop across the creek on the north side of the road. There was one lone patch of poison ivy on FSR 7099 about .3 miles from the gate, so beware.
