Ascent Trip ReportI started a beautiful afternoon chatting with a gentleman named Douglas who has hiked and maintained the trail for over 30 years. From my understanding, they have not been able to work on the trail since the fire, which has shown its fury and magnitude in this area knocking over everything from giant pines to smaller chaparral. The trail has become drainage for the area, flooded with downed trees and sticks make the trek challenging, and the trail seems to follow game trails in certain areas where the fire has deterred the path. The new forest floor is full of lilacs, ferns, and young manzanitas. Cell towers at the top allow the hiker to continue here to south cobb.
Started the GPX track out since it is a little different from the previous GPX on site, although the app I use sometimes cheats and draws a straight line between two points you can see where the 4x4 road is lost. Also from the cell towers on Cobb, the old road that loops around is lost to the point I couldn't find it wild standing on top of it, making the steeper more direct route the path down and unfortunately up. Happy trekking
