Ascent Trip ReportMy route was from Pole Canyon (I don't know why this isn't considered THE route up Nelson. As far as I can tell there is no red tape (except stay on the W side of the ridge). I did Nelson first, then Farnsworth, and finally down to Kessler. Descended on a Sam Grant route down a huge limestone outcropping, then traversed the hillside back to Pole Canyon where I'd left my bike. It was like 6 different activities: An uphill mountain bike ride from the 2WD parking into the canyon, a lovely walk in deep woods with soft rain and no wind, a whiteout snowshoe with hail and lots of wind (to Nelson and halfway back), A lovely snowshoe with dramatic cloudy skies, A boring hike up a road fearful that someone might try to arrest me or something, a dramatic descent down a huge limestone intrusion, and a nice walk (except I was pretty tired and out of food and water, oops) on the flank of the mountain back to my bike. The phone cut out just as I picked up my bike and took a couple last pictures. RT including the bike ride (5.5 mi, 1200') was about 24 mi and 8400'.
