Ascent Trip ReportRoad was pretty good up to just before the abandoned spur road takes off, then some larger snow patches. The spur road was snow covered and brushy for the first third, but easy to follow. I decided to ascend via the South ridge. The lower section was moderately choked by rhododendrons, which made going slow, but then it opened up a bit and I had some good views of the route ahead. A few false summits were easily scrambled or bypassed on the left. The most challenging bit was the summit block itself (Mountaineers rates it class 4), but it is just a very short section of slabby rock and then you are on top. The summit view is great! There is a survey marker but no register I could find. Decided to make a more direct descent next to Waketickeh Creek and it went fine. It was steepish snow in more open forest - much less brushy. This would probably be the better ascent route as well, although I enjoyed the views from the ridge. West Rock also looks like a fairly open summit - maybe another worthy destination. . .
