Ascent Trip Report

Parked at end of public street in subdivision and many people using the "open space" for biking and some hiking. Took the obvious route up the wide maintenance road trail through beautiful high desert enjoying seeing the holly leaved scrub oaks, and junipers and many species of cacti. The trail is worn with loose large grain feldspar which as you approach the summit gets steep and slippery class 1+ but soon you are rewarded with a classic granite boulder top with great views, good prominence and an easy short class 2+ scamper to the top. Then Karen headed down as I decided to work over near the public-private fence and catch some extra credit with the range to the south that showed a clear 200 foot prominence top and some fine bushwhacking.

The down climb was not fast as I took a bad line and got into tough large boulders that were not easy scrambling (class 3 or more) with tough vegetation in the places you needed to drop into so I was cut up. Soon I realized the best route was to go towards the fence the route I took back that never exceeded class 2 to 2+ and was much easier. See next TR.

This route GPS ends at the saddle between peaks so that the return route is on that summit report.
