Ascent Trip Report

Did this hike 11 Mar 2020. Drove up from North Georgia and spent the night in Marion (45 minutes south) in the Quality Inn. Got a late start leaving the hotel because of a dense fog (hour and half delay for me). So, I knew before I started that it would be hard for me to hike out to Celo from Mitchell and make it back before the park closed at 6pm. I was within 15 minutes of my turn around time when I stood on the summit of Winter Star so I turned around. It would have saved me another trip and some miles but I would have never made it back in time. The trail (not sure whether it's called Black Mtn Crest or Deep Gap) still had snow/ice in places, but it was mostly just muddy and the rocks were slippery. I would call this trail HARD. But, I had spent the two previous weeks in St. Thomas USVI, basically drinking from sun up to sun down so I might not have been in my best hiking shape, however I did have a good tan (no one noticed).
