Ascent Trip ReportWe backpacked into South Colony Lakes from the South Colony Lakes TH (37.97611° N, -105.50651° W) (4wd/clearance needed to reach the upper TH). The next morning we headed up to Broken Hand Pass and started with Crestone Needle via its standard C3 South Face route. We returned to Broken Hand Pass and descended along Cottonwood Creek. Rex wasn't feeling so hot and had already finished the 14ers forever ago so he decided to hangout with bighorn sheep at the lakes while I did Crestone Peak quickly as an out-&-back via its standard C3 South Face route (red gully). After that we hauled it back up to Broken Hand Pass to return to South Colony Lakes and hike out. |
