Ascent Trip ReportThough officially closed by the government after recent seismic activity, there is always a way. The last bit to the true summit from the false summit is now crumbly and narrow due to slide activity within the past two years. Could see a group on the lower rim route flying a drone over the crater. The Besakih Temple trail is badly eroded and becoming overgrown in places now that it sees little use though my guide says he and his friends are keeping it clear. My guide and I were the only people on the summit route on this day.
The lower slopes contain some of the most magnificent jungle vegetation I have seen in Bali and were a delight as I hadn't seen anything during our middle of the night ascent. I wore light hiking boots and was glad to have them.
