Ascent Trip Report

Took the Weld trail (prior attempt via Scenic route unsuccessful). Rainbow Falls fully frozen. Several inches of loose snow, but broken out fairly well to the junction where it splits off to Gothics. The .5 mile up to Sawteeth wasn't broken out as well. One set of snowshoe tracks. One icy section where we chopped footholds and used ice axe to pull up for a couple of feet. (On same section on descent, used rope around tree to climb down over large rock off to the side.) Beautiful view of Great Range nearing summit and at summit. Didn't go the extra distance for other view, as a storm was coming in. Snowed only the last hour out, so put no precipitation in weather description below . About 12 miles, 8 hours (5 up, 3 down). 4 degrees F at start, 14 degrees F finish.
