Ascent Trip Report

Moel Y Golfa 403m
This was the last hike of our two day four Marilyns hiking tour around Welshpool. We parked the van in a small car park at Middletown just off the A458 north east of Welshpool. From here we just walked down the A458 a few hundred meters and turned up right into Golfa Woods. Once into the woods we walked about two kms SW alongside the fence line until we turned up right towards the quarry. Once you pass the quarry you carry on for about 500m until you see you a path going steadily uphill in front of you. Carry straight up this path which meanders quite steeply up Golfa hill until you get to a place on the map marked Trinity Well. Shortly after this you get to a rocky steep pitch where you will need to have a hands on scramble. This then brings you out onto a bit of a plateau. Not long after you will see a concrete monument on your left, the summit is on a little knoll on the other side of the monument. The views are nice and it is a lovely place to have a spot of lunch.
Coming down you head NE on an obvious path through the woods until you hit a fence line. You hang a right and zig zag all the way down to join the original point where you came into the woods at. You then simply retrace your footsteps back into Middletown.

Route Summary: Pleasant forest walk, short pitch of easy scrambling, easy trails but with a good sharp uphill stretch to the summit.
Route Statistics: 4.9km, 315m of height gain done in 1hr 53mins.
