Ascent Trip ReportChina is building a paved road all the way from Mt Hagen city to Betty’s Lodge. She is building a new 10-room hotel next to her trout farm. If you are only doing Wilhelm, find her details on Facebook or Lonely Planet.
We also did Giluwe so booked through Pym. His service is excellent, although price is relatively high. If you want to go directly to a guide who can arrange a multi-mountain peakbagging expedition, contact Rafael. firstname.lastname@example.org. +675 7268 remove 0743. He also is a good backcountry chef.
The hike itself is straightforward with the Peakbagger tracks. Guide is mandatory and Betty can arrange. It took us about 10h RT, spread over two days because our guide wasn’t capable of such a long day trip. Some noobs choose to go unguided with no route information, often with very bad outcomes.
If you are adventurous, there is a 4-pitch grade VI bolted rock climb up the other face. Betty can arrange local climbing guides who helped the Germans set the route.
