Ascent Trip Report

Took white mountain road to the dead end before the high altitude research station (University of California alumni here, woot!). 4 wheel drive is advisable. We made it confidently in a Subaru outback in completely dry conditions.

Camped in a clearing to the right of the dead end. There is a nice little flat campsite down there, take a look!
Woke up at a reasonable hour (7am) and started the dirt road slog. Say some farm animals at the research station, which was pretty cool.

I liked this hike because White Mountain becomes more and more magnificent as you approach. Definitely a lack of oxygen up there, which becomes very clear above 13,000 feet.

Silly side note: Some research subjects were making their way to the summit on our way down the mountain, with most just carrying a single water bottle... "How far to the top?" to which I shake my head and respond, "oh boy...." and confidently walk away hoping they find my response as humorous as I did.
