Ascent Trip Report

After a walk below the peak earlier in the day from Gavarnie to view the famous cirque, we had time to take the road up to Col des Tentes. The weather was fine indeed, with no hint of thunder. ALT stayed at the pass, while I made off for the summit. The view to the south was dominated by the rocky baulk of le Taillon with its remnant glaciers. The eroded path soon brought me onto the summit, complete with viewfinder. To the south-east I had a good view of the Brèche de Roland (see at, the extraordinary gash in the frontier ridge through which I had passed on my way out to and back from le Taillon nearly two years earlier. It was good to be in a position to see again the course of one of my most memorable walks in the mountains of France.

I returned by my outward route and was soon back at the col.
