Ascent Trip Report

We followed the trip reports of others and hiked back on the road about 0.1 mile to a cattle gate on the left. The hike starts out benign enough, but gradually deteriorates into some challenging sections, especially the narrow V slotted areas up the wash. The wash is filled with small to medium loose rocks; the ground was wet from recent rains, but that didn't affect the hike much. The wash is steep, rugged, and rutted in sections. Coupled with the loose rocks, it took some concentration. Once we gained the ridge line, it leveled out for a bit, then the roller coaster terrain began. We hiked down, then up over about six high points; rocky the entire way and steep in sections, we finally landed on the peak only to discover that the ammo box that contains the most viable register had leaked, soaking the register. There is another ammo box with a jumbled mess of registers, which were dry. Another plastic container had leaked as well. I dumped out the water and put the main register outside to dry. Hopefully, someone will put it back in the ammo box before it rains again. I generally like hiking up washes and also like the boulder hopping that is inherent in most washes, but there are no boulders on this hike, just loose small to medium rocks. Although the view from the peak was spectacular, it was one of my least favorite hikes so far, simply because I had to concentrate on all those loose rocks. There really isn't a trail, except for a few sections, because almost all of the hike is up a wash. One and done on this one!
