Ascent Trip ReportStarted from Twin Lakes Resort shortly after 10am and followed the 4x4 road (not recently used) up to the east slope of Peak 10294. We intersected the Sawmill Ridge at Peak 10294 at 1:20pm and started our traversal westward. Arrived at Sawmill Ridge before 2pm. There was no summit register so I left one there. After Sawmill Ridge Peak we continued our traversal to Robinson Peak. The major challenge was the elevation gain from 7,000 feet at Twin Lakes Resort to the ridge elevation at 10,300 feet. Once on the ridge, the slope was quite gentle. Once the 4x4 track ended, there was no clear trail going up to the ridge so it was a wide open cross country and you pick your poison, dry creek bed or ridge with fairly dense vegetation. We chose the latter, which involved some knee-high bushwhacking from time to time.
The major appeal was certainly a constant great view of Twin Peaks, Matterhorn Peak and the rest of Sawtooth Ridge. On the ascent, Bridgeport Reservoir and the nearby Potato Peak and Bodie Mountain could be clearly seen. Once on the ridge, there was great view of Buckeye Ridge, its highest peak Eagle Peak, and the Eagle Creek Canyon that lies between Buckeye Ridge and Sawmill Ridge. |
