Ascent Trip Report

Just Ava and me while Sean and Bill scouted for ice up around Alpental which they didn’t find enough of. Incredibly sunny with blue sky and little wind but cold. Used micro spikes, could have used earlier on the trail to the falls as was packed and slick. Made it up past the falls almost to the ridge but at a steep spot decided to put on the spikes to be more efficient. Only a few inches of light powdery snow on trail and about 6 inches of snow at the top. Lots coming down while I was heading up so I had the summit to myself. Ava seemed cold and even with her puffy and my fleece would not stay on the mat, she wanted to get moving. Darn snow that gets inside her coat chest must not feel good when laying down...ordered a new Hurtta expedition parka for her once home. Hopefully that provides a little better fit and snow protection. Felt trudgingly slow....too much turkey I guess. 2hr 37min using the trail which ends up around 13 miles or so.
