This mountain has been on my mind for a while. Back in 2015 I "climbed" the mountain from the base near Black Canyon Reservoir via the SE rib route up to the fire lookout. Standing there it sure seemed like the highest point, but I later read that the highpoint was actually a few miles north... So Kate and I went back to finally put this to rest. There are actually 3 points on this mountain that seem nearly the same height - the lookout, Squaw Butte South, and Squaw Butte. I'll defer to the USGS, but I have to say that after standing on the 3 points in the same day, the lookout point still definitely looks like the highest... but do as we did and tag all 3 to know you stood at the true highpoint.
I really don't have much to add, it's a pretty straightforward hike with a little off trail scrambling and a little (very light) bushwhacking to get to the "true" summit of Squaw Butte. The road up to below the lookout is decent, but the last half mile or so it very steep and "washboard" so a 4wd vehicle is definitely nice to have.
