Ascent Trip Report

We parked at the gate a half mile up Saddleback Mountain Road and walked up the road to the cell towers. The road is extremely steep near the end, and there is actually a house on the hillside on the left. The end of the road is fenced in, so we bushwhacked around the edge of the fence to the top of the knoll with the cell towers. This spot has the best view. We could see over the leafless trees in several directions. We bushwhacked down from the southwestern knob, passing around a small cliff band, and climbed up to the true summit. We explored the area around the summit for quite some time. There are many ledges with some interesting red pine stands, but not much in the way of views. The first one we found was one immediately east of the summit with a view out toward the seacoast region. On the way back to the cell towers, we came across a long, sloping ledge with a good view to the south.
