Ascent Trip Report

Solo trip today starting at the AMC Highland center even though Mt Clinton Road was open I decided not to do that with my car. -2F at the trailhead which is cold for this time of year and last week the Presidentials had some ice early and then about 6-8" of snow. Started out with spikes up Crawford Path which has to be one of the most consistent trails in the Whites and with snow on it was easy going to the the Mizpah Cutoff and then up to Webster Cliff Trail. Just before I got the WCT I saw an American Pine Marten running up the trail (lots of tracks) but not long enough to get a photo. Found the Pierce geocache before getting out onto the WCT where it was a little windy -- enough to make you cold. Sky south was very orange even though the sun had been up for several hours. Had Pierce all to myself and grabbed a few shots over the southern Presis and enjoyed the 100 mile views.

Hiked back down the WCT to Crawford and decided to put on short snowshoes since the drifts were pretty high in places. They worked well along the ridge and up Eisenhower. Sun was in an out behind the clouds to the south and wind wasn't too bad on this side of Ike. Summiting Eisenhower the wind picked up and I grabbed a few pictures before descending down the north side of Eisenhower. Met the first people of the day just as the wind was picking up and also wished I could take my snowshoes off because there was no snow on this side of the mountain. Once I got down out of the wind near Red Pond I took off my snowshoes in the protection of the col, explored some of the trails that went onto the SW side of the ridge, grabbed some shots and walked back towards Edmands. Edmands was a quick hike down to Mt Clinton Road although my left knee was bothering me so I was happy to get down. Walked the 2 miles back out Mt Clinton road to the car and did a geocache along the way. Great pictures from this hike.
