Ascent Trip Report

Parked at parking area on shoemaker rd. at trailhead to Devils path. Started hiking at 8:20. Hiked about a mile and left the Devils path and headed west directly up North Dome. The rest of the hike was all a bushwhack. Hiking up North Dome was very steep with numerous bands of ledges to negotiate. There was an inch or two of snow on the ground which made getting good footing a real challenge. As we neared the top we ran into the evergreens and we found a herd trail that led to the canister at the peak. It took about 2:15 to get to the canister. Shortly before getting to the summit we ran into a dozen other hikers doing a group hike and we tagged along with them until we got to Mt Sherrill where we headed off in different directions. It was a chance encounter but we made a few new friends along the way. From Sherrill we headed north down to Spruceton rd and walked the road back to our car. The total hike took 6:40. It was a very cold day but we had blue skies and no wind which made for a great hike. Then it was 3 hours in the car back to PA.
