Ascent Trip ReportMagnolia Bluff is a County Park located in far west Rock County. Follow Hwy 59 south from Evansville, WI. Within a mile or two 59 will make a sharp turn off to the west. Stay on 59 and then in another mile or two you will see a sign directing you to turn left (south) onto Croak Road to get to the park. Once on Croak Road you will see Magnolia Bluff County Park off to your left immediately. Drive into the park and follow the road up the hill and turn into the Equine trails parking lot near the top of the hill. If you were to follow the road past this parking lot you will get to the parking lot for the west bluff overlook which is well worth a visit after you visit the HP.
Once at the trail kiosk with the bench in the Equine Parking area you will see 3 trails in front of you branching off in different directions. Follow the trail to your right which initially goes towards the park road but then goes off to the east into the woods. Within .05 miles turn left onto the trail marked for hiking/skiing. At .1 miles a trail branches off to the left and down a hill. Stay right for the route marked "long route-Expert". Don't worry you don't need to be an expert unless you're on skis on this trail in the winter. At .14 miles keep right once again. At .18 miles from the parking lot you should be at the top of a hill which is the Rock County HP. From the opinions of many other HPers it seems the consensus is that the highest point is near the fence-line here and that nothing in the field is higher though it may seem like it without hand-leveling. It was a really hot day and I was glad to have my Strawberry Lemonade Powerade with me. I chugged down all 32 oz pretty quick. Make sure you check out the bluff overlook before you leave!
