Ascent Trip Report

Gorgeous blue sky day!!! Incredible views including an up close of Mt Stuart with her fresh coat of white.

Driving through Roslyn we found Maggie’s Pantry closed with paper covering all the windows...hoping they are remodeling in the off season? Used a portopotty just off the road...

Drove way up on a very narrow road which Sean got out a few times to clear the bigger rocks out of the path for my low clearance car. Only one truck at the TH. Apparently it’s been awhile so I needed to remind myself how nice insoles are...yep forgot them for my boots but luckily Sean had extra socks to lend so it ended up not that bad and this day would be shorter than the last time going up Silver, Tinkham and Abiel.

Made our way towards Jolly and as both of us had done that before (and with my boot issue) we cut off towards skookum and The Louvre. Traversed over bypassing Skookum and did find the very short little slabby scramble section. No problem but Sean made it a little spicier with Ava on leash. We took turns waiting with Ava at the false summit to scramble over to the real summit which I did by going around to the other side. Not hard but some big loose chockstones blocks fully black lichen covered. Sean did the more straight up which was fun but harder to downclimb.

After taking in the amazing views we headed back towards Skookum and then a snack break. Very quiet and peaceful. Some fall color but probably a bit past in this area. Met one guy on a motorbike as we were hiking out who had setup a hunting camp near the base of Jolly. Apparently he had a horse and some mules heading out behind us after dropping the gear. We saw their prints sliding around in the steeper sections and thought that would make things exciting! Found a few more cars at the TH and asked the guy if he knew anything about Maggie’s Pantry. He did say the building could have been sold so maybe there are changes? Perhaps just painting though? So hopefully will find out later.
