Ascent of Wallaby Peak on 2019-10-06
|Date:||Sunday, October 6, 2019|
|Ascent Type:||Unsuccessful - Turned Back|
| Elevation:||7955 ft / 2424 m|
Ascent Trip ReportAbout 80% of the route was covered with snow between ankle-deep and knee-deep. Underneath the loose snow were boulders, tree branches, rock slabs, talus, and logs, all of which created slip hazards and hidden voids. It was a posthole nightmare and made progress very slow - the last 700 ft of climbing took more than 2 hours. We didn't quite reach the summit. With less than 40 feet to go we were past our turnaround time at the bottom of a challenging and exposed rock section surrounded by snow. We didn't have time to look for another route so we turned around. It was still a fun trip with incredible views.
