Ascent Trip Report

Public. The approach drive isn't too bad, ok to get most cars to the lower TH and then high clearance to the upper TH but not a bad road really. We took the standard route going to the saddle and up the North ridge. Trail is in nice condition. The area seems to have been subject to a recent controlled burn below 6500', so the underbrush is manageable. I found the N ridge to have a modest amount of brush and then more talus that I cared for. An ascending traverse on the E side would have worked better than the ridgeline itself, which also features up and down. The top is talus any way you slice it. For the descent, we bailed down the E face at a bearing of perhaps 75 degrees and we hit the trail at about 6200'. This route was preferable to the ascent route and I would recommend it both ways, at least under more brush returns. More direct and better forest. On the way down, we had to book it as there was a party with a barky dog that was triggered by seeing us from even 100 yards away and so I wanted to make sure that Bobby didn't cross paths with it. Practically jogged down parts of it which had my thighs hurting the next day but we were able to keep space which was for the best. Nice views on top.
