Ascent of Yamsay Mountain on 2019-10-06Date: | Sunday, October 6, 2019 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Yamsay Mountain | Location: | USA-Oregon | Elevation: | 8196 ft / 2498 m |
Ascent Trip ReportThis is an easy hike on an old road, pretty well overgrown but with a very discernible trail. You do not need a track for the hike but you do need one for the drive in. The Summitpost driving directions are out of date and will get you lost - much of it is correct but you need 100% correct for an efficient drive to the TH. We saw no "down road" signage for the Jackson Creek Campgound and we saw no campground. I've attached a track for the drive between Highway 97 and the TH. Since there is a 3,000 point limit on PB for tracks, I deleted 215 points on the Highway 97 end of the driving track. The track should save some fuel (and help save the environment). For this track/route, 2WD will do just fine all the way to the TH and, while the vegetation comes in a little tighter during the last 2 miles, there really is no worry (in 2019) with scratching up the paint. For subsequent years, YMMV. |
