Ascent Trip Report

Entered 10/6/2019.

This was a very brief hike to the observatory on top of South Sugarloaf Mountain. It's such a small mountain in terms of volume yet has a road up its slopes and facilities at the summit. The trails were steep coming up and especially down. We climbed the observation tower and were treated with very high-quality views. It was foggy, but that adds a bit of a vibe to it. I was disappointed to see housing developments in construction right next to the trail at the mountain's base. I guess the state park doesn't cover any radius around the mountain itself so developers could build right up to it. It was busy despite the weather including car traffic on the mountain road. I could feel my legs after yesterday's hike!
