Ascent Trip Report

My wife dropped me off in the quiet village at the top of the Gschutt Pass. I headed through the village to the end of the lane, taking the trail into the fir forest. Eventually I emerged into alpine pastures by a small hut. The path continued in a series of zig-zags up a steep valley to Traunwaldalm. The course of the trail from here was rather indistinct at first, but markers eventually appeared to guide me up through dwarf pine to a coombe below the summit crags. From here it headed left to gain the south-west ridge before continuing steeply up. This was hard-going. A large flock of ptarmigan crossed the trail just in front of me. Eventually I gained the ridge, where a good path led me to the summit cross. I signed the summit book. The view in all directions was stunning. My descent was through varied terrain down a beautiful valley past the refuge at Angerkaralm back into Russbach. Unusual sheep encountered on my hike!
