Ascent Trip Report

Day 1: Left Tachikawa station on 7:21am departure Express "Azusa", changed train/bus ride later arriving at Kamikouchi Bus Terminal, the main trailhead for Hotakadake Peaks area around 12:30pm. Start hiking at 1:20pm, arriving at Yoko-o Lodge around 3:50pm, overnight stay.

Day 2: Departed Yoko-o Lodge shortly after 6:05am, arriving at Karasawa Hut at 8:15am and Kitahotaka Peak at 11:28am. After a lunch break at Kitahotaka Hut, begin descending at 12:15pm and back at Karasawa Hut at 2:15pm, overnight stay to enjoy breathtaking view of Karasawa Cirque in the twightlight and star filled night sky. On the route to Kitahotaka Peak, there were a few spots that required some scrambling. These sections had fixed chains for assist but it would be easier to climb without relying on them since there are good holds. Going down the same sections were bit trickier but chain were still not necessary. 2 way traffic could create some queues on busy days. No exposures but helmet is recommended due to loose rocks.

Day 3: Leisurely departure from Karasawa Hut at 6:24am after the breakfast, tracing the way via Yoko-o Lodge arriving at Kamikouchi Bus Terminal at 10:24am.
