Ascent of Asama-yama on 2019-10-01
|Date:||Tuesday, October 1, 2019|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||8425 ft / 2567 m|
Ascent Trip ReportFrom east, trail at road col, passing Asama Volcano Observatory and continuing past Mt Koasama to summit. Trailhead has limited parking (more on east side of road if allowable). Signboard at start saying go at your own risk. Three large boulders competing for highpoint status, the two northernmost equal highest according to my hand level.
Crater just quietly smoking today but a 20 minute 1800m plume of smoke 2 months ago (7 August) made headlines. Not a place for a picnic.
3hrs round trip. Visited the dormant Koasama 1655m P90 on the way down, has a trig partly hidden by vegetation.
