Part of my first trip from the UMOC cabin in Bethlehem, NH. Arrived in the dark at the cabin Friday and hiked Saturday. The trail wasn't all that bad and we walked at a decent pace so we actually finished our hike earlier than expected. I always love popping out into the alpine region of the Presidential Range and we had clear views of most of the White Mountains. I wasn't as lucky atop Mt. Monroe last year. We almost climbed that one too, including Mt. Franklin in the middle but forecasts called for rain later in the day despite it being so sunny, and it did, a couple of hours after we finished the hike. The mountain was fairly busy, but not packed. A number of dogs, surprisingly. One was laying asleep on the alpine meadow which was cute. It took us about 2.5 hours to summit, starting at 9:00 and summiting at 11:30, and about 2 hours to get down. With our extra time, we waded in Saco Lake in Crawford Notch, ate pizza at Catalano's on Route 302, and browsed an antique shop and bookstore in Bethlehem. We returned to the cabin at 5PM. We had nachos, burritos, and pumpkin-banana bread with chocolate chips. We played some cabin games such as bench traverse, box/bag game, table traverse, and others. Won the box game! A good night overall. Slept much better than the first night. Got back to campus around 2PM Sunday.
