Ascent Trip Report

although this peak would suck as a hike (because OHV area), it really does have excellent views of lake shasta, and offered the only view of shasta itself i would get today (mostly because the weather around shasta was cloudy all day). in fact, thanks to the carr fire, the views along the driving track i'm attaching are outstanding.

the attached drive is reasonable for any SUV, but i'd recommend all-terrain tires. i actually drove in from the west, via east fork road, and from that direction there are some pretty steep gravel hills which could challenge your torque and traction. however there was nothing that bad on the route i'm attaching. regardless, gmaps got me to the summit area (and out) just fine. almost all the driving in the OHV area is on road 1.

i hiked up from the saddle just south of the summit. there was a steep loose gravel OHV road to the summit which i think the range rover could have handled, but i couldn't see the entire climb and didn't want to do it blind.

speaking of the range rover: it turned 100000 on the drive between slate and bohemotash, and it's about two weeks shy of 3 years old. in that time i estimate i've visited 1000 peaks (after correcting for peaks i used rentals for), leading to approximately 100 miles per peak. that seems a bit excessive, but that's apparently the cost of an addiction to P2ks (although i wouldn't claim i'm all that efficient -- difficult to be efficient without retiring and having the time to clear out areas).
