Ascent of Bullhead Mountain on 2019-09-27Date: | Friday, September 27, 2019 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Bullhead Mountain | Location: | USA-North Carolina | Elevation: | 5920 ft / 1804 m |
Ascent Trip ReportParked at Graybeard Overlook (BRP) and walked north along the MST. Attempted several routes up from the MST before finally finding one that was less hellish than the others, but still at times resorted to belly-crawling through the shrubs. Discovered a beautiful open forest on the summit with a beautiful, huge Cherry-bark Birch holding court near the center.
I've hiked all the southern 6K and most of the NC 5.5K peaks, and this is by far the hardest bushwhack I've had to make to gain a summit. Do not attempt this one without long pants, sleeves, and gloves.
And if you find a folding saw up there, it's mine (fell out somewhere along the way and going back up to search for it was not even considered!) :-) |
