Ascent Trip ReportDriving directions from the North:
From US Hwy 20 in Burns drive OR Hwy 78 east for about 66.5 miles to virtual MP 65.2. Zero your odometer.
0.0 Turn south on East Steens Road, signed Andrews 52 and Fields 65.
11.2 Pavement ends.
24.1 Pass Mann Lake Recreation Area on your right.
31.3 The road turns right. Turn left on an unmarked road leading south (I saw no signs for Mickey Hot Springs until I arrived at the springs).
33.2 Turn Left (the other road continues straight towards a playa).
34.2 Continue Straight at a Y to continue below a ridge to your left.
36.2 Continue Straight as a minor road goes left.
38.0 Arrive at Mickey Hot Springs. There is parking for several vehicles here.
We left the Mickey Hot Springs parking lot and hiked north across the desert to enter the south gully. We climbed to the left of the gully bottom where the slope seemed more open and stable. Before reaching the Mickey Butte/Peak 6275 saddle we climbed up NE to reach the south ridge of Mickey Butte and followed it to the summit. From the summit we descended directly to the Mickey Butte/Peak 6275 saddle then walked across open and easy ground to reach the summit of Peak 6275. Both summits had 4G cell service. We returned to the south gully and descended back to the desert floor and our vehicles. I have combined hiking statistics here for both Mickey Butte and Peak 6275.
