Ascent Trip ReportTook VanHoevenburg trail. Fairly easy to Marcy Dam, then starts to get rocky with gentle elevation gain. Muddy and wet. Stopped at Indian Falls, a minute or so walk off trail (there is a sign). Well worth it. Continued up, the last .7 mi is where it gets steepest and you're on the open rock face following cairns.
There is a section roped off to follow so you avoid the revegetation area. Super windy approaching and on the summit... could knock you over. Beautiful views, but spent so much energy trying to stay upright... Felt like the hike back was double long and extra rocky, but of course, it wasn't. Lots of campers at Marcy Dam. A summit steward was descending as we were approaching the final ascent; she stopped and chatted about the alpine vegetation and what to avoid, etc.
