Ascent Trip Report

i kind of took the alternate trail to the top just so i could post the alternate track. it's only a little shorter than the gold lake western side approach. gmaps got me to the trailhead, on good gravel road, with some washboarding. 2wd sedans should be able to make it. the trailhead is signed "maiden lake trailhead" coming in from the highway.

the trail is well maintained, and at an easy grade (mountain bikes permitted) until you're 600' from the summit, where it becomes steeper and a little more faint. there were some cairns but i lost the track once while coming down. the trail is pretty much tree covered other than at the parking lot and at the summit.

the views today were a bit obscured by some light smoke haze, and clouds covering the big peaks to the north. but diamond peak and the nearby lakes were nice to look at while i ate my lunch and traded pics with my sister who was hiking trails on the east coast.
