Ascent Trip ReportVia Tunnel Creek and Cunningham Pass.
From the Tunnel Creek trailhead, hike up past the shelter to the footbridge and start off cross country. Although, a trail is starting to form and it was heavily flagged making it very easy to follow (2019). You'll pass a couple boulder fields before reaching the end of the valley. Turn right (north) and ascend to Cunningham Pass. Drop down into the basin. It can be tempting to go around the first set of cliffs at ~6000 ft and ascend a sharp 'V' shaped gulley, but it dead ends with no way to get over the second set of cliffs. Instead drop all the way down to 5600 ft where a permanent snow field is marked on the topo to get around the second set of cliffs before ascending almost due west to get up to the basin where 6400 is marked on most topo maps and meet up with the standard route from there. Be prepared for a choss fest! Like, seriously... tons of choss.
