Ascent Trip Report

Access: This is one of the most popular hikes in Crater Lake National Park, so access is simple and there are restrooms just down the road from the trailhead. On a busy weekend parking may be difficult to find. There is also a fee to enter the park.

The Climb: A very well maintained trail takes you all the way to the summit. It was easy going and I saw hikers of all ages and abilities out enjoying a beautiful day at Crater Lake. The summit sports a lookout tower and a benchmark on a large boulder, which is also the high point. Views of Crater Lake below are superb.

My Thoughts: Mount Scott has one of the best summit views, but is also not at all peaceful. I passed many groups and I was on the summit at the same time as a large family that had to get pictures of every permutation of family members, hats on/off, sunglasses on/off, and facing toward/away from the camera. It was truly ridiculous. Due to the hour long photo shoot at the summit and a long drive back to Idaho, I didn't spend too long at the summit.

I am always looking for climbing partners, so if you are based in or around northern Idaho feel free to contact me.
